VALIDITY IN INDIA

Is MBBS from Timor-Leste Valid in India?

This is one of the most important questions asked by students and parents. The answer depends on multiple factors including program structure, regulatory alignment, and the licensing process in India.

Understanding Validity

The validity of an MBBS degree obtained from a foreign medical college, for the purpose of practicing medicine in India, is determined by the regulatory framework established by the National Medical Commission (NMC). Under the Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate (FMGL) Regulations, 2021, any Indian student who graduates from a foreign medical institution must meet specific eligibility criteria and pass the FMGL screening test to obtain a license to practice in India.

Nalanda College of Medicine, Timor-Leste has structured its MBBS program keeping in mind the requirements outlined in these regulations. However, the final determination of validity rests with the NMC and the relevant Indian authorities at the time of the student's application.

What Determines Validity

Duration

The program must meet the minimum duration requirements as specified by the NMC, including the academic curriculum and supervised internship period.

Internship

A 12-month supervised clinical internship must be completed as part of the program before a student can apply for licensure in India.

Medium

English-medium instruction is a key requirement. The academic program must be delivered in English to qualify under FMGL regulations.

Clinical Training

Adequate clinical exposure and hands-on training in hospital settings is required to meet the competency expectations of Indian regulatory bodies.

Right to Practice

The degree must entitle the holder to practice medicine in the country where it was obtained, which is a prerequisite under Indian regulations.

Licensing

Graduates must pass the FMGL screening test conducted by the NMC to obtain a license to practice medicine in India after completing their degree.

Important Notice
Nalanda College of Medicine, Timor-Leste does not claim 100% validity of its degree in India or any other country. The validity of any foreign medical degree is subject to the regulations and decisions of the concerned authorities at the time of the student's graduation and application for licensure. Students and parents are advised to independently verify all regulatory requirements before making any decisions.
